The Edinburgh Tattoo
Article Abstract:
Each year 200,000 people come to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo perform in the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. The 25 shows during the Edinburgh International Festival in August are produced by Edinburgh Military Tattoo Ltd. The Tattoo is televised in 26 countries. The budget for expenditures is 1.6 million Pounds Sterling, and it has never gone over budget. Some of the surplus funds are given to charity. There are approximately 1,000 people involved in the productions each year and the arena alone costs 400,000 pounds sterling to create. Sponsorship packages were devised that range from several years of television and seat rights, to sponsorship of a single performance for 5,000 pounds sterling. The Tattoo makes a significant contribution to the local economy.

Anglia Television Ltd CEO David McCall enjoys partnership with creative program makers in public broadcasting and is proud that Anglia programs have produced profits. Competition from satellite television will increase, but McCall believes that the Anglia supremacy in quality shows can be maintained for non-satellite viewers. The competition will increase the choices in all types of programs for discriminating viewers.
