A study analyzing the effectiveness of regulated audit regime like that of National Health Service in England and Wales, wherein an oversight body called the Audit Commission defines the duties of external auditors, appoints the auditors and has control over their fees and quality, is presented.

A study analyzing the quality of earnings during the late 1990s when there was hectic stock market activity is presented. The study examines whether there was a decline in this earnings quality, and whether the industry specialist auditors were able to restrict this decline.
