Could bank loans solve Europe's biotech financing slump?

The giant European Investment Bank (EIB) is planning to loan millions of euros to biotech firms in late-stage product development to improve the Europe's weak financing record. The EIB initiative comes in response to pressure from the European Commission, which has identified a 'financing gap'-particularly in the late stage as the biggest single barrier to European Union biotech competitiveness.

Several examples of failures that could sink even the most promising of courtships with a Venture capital firm are presented.
