The decline and fall of the private investor
Article Abstract:
Private investors in the UK face a number of problems such as pressure to use nominee accounts and the possibility of exclusion from many new share issues from 1996. Dealing charges are likely to increase for private investors under the Crest system, according to proposed tariffs from CrestCo. ProShare is a lobby group for private investors and is seeking better tax treatment. This appears unlikely under the present government or if the Labor Party gains power.
