The impact of alternative operationalizations of industry structural elements on measures of performance for entrepreneurial manufacturing ventures
Article Abstract:
A study investigated the effect of alternative operationalizations of industry structural elements on alternative metrics of firm performance. In particular, this analysis looked at the different operationalizations and measures of industry structural elements found to be relevant in earlier studies. This study used data from a sample of 115 high-potential independent manufacturing ventures. Findings revealed that operationalizations have a significant influence on how industry structural elements affect firm performance measures. Moreover, results showed that industry structure measures differentially affected alternative measures of firm performance. This means that various performance measures cannot be used as interchangeable substitutes for each other.
