An examination of the selectivity and market timing performance of UK unit trusts
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the selectivity and timing performance of UK unit trusts during 1980-1989. Two approaches for determining investment manager skills required in forecasting were used, with both assuming Capital Asset Pricing Model equilibrium. Results showed that selectivity performance is usually positive while timing performance is usually negative. However, the type of benchmark portfolio considered was found to affect result significance and cases where the total performance of the trusts is considered.
