The learning curve
Article Abstract:
The role of technology in educational achievement is becoming an increasingly significant issue in the US. It is now widely recognized that children must be computer literate, but some observers have raised doubts about whether funds should be moved from more traditional programmes in order to purchase high-tech equipment. Efforts are being made to undertake detailed assessments of how technology can enhance education, and educators are warning that computers should not be used merely to replicate poor teaching methods. It is becoming clear that technology can enhance high quality education, but cannot improve bad education.

The sugar rush
Article Abstract:
Cereal makers are relying on innovative marketing techniques to boost sales. Kellogg's, for instance, offers breakfast cereals enhanced with marshmallow to make them more appealing to children. Cereal boxes feature cartoon characters such as dinosaurs and meteors as well as activities that easily attract young buyers. Some companies also market cereal brands inspired by dolls, videogames, movies and other entirely different products. In addition, supermarkets spend considerable time and money to make shelves for cereals attractive to shoppers.
