The legislative legacy
Article Abstract:
Proposed revisions to Canada's Bankruptcy Act will restore the law's relevance to corporate insolvencies, reorganizations and receiverships. The act, which was last amended in 1949, become applicable only to individual insolvency cases. The trend towards receiverships and corporate restructurings has compelled the government to effect changes to the act in order to devise a law that will govern reorganizations. The Canadian Insolvency Association and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants are involved in formulating the legislative reforms and revisions.

From committee to board
Article Abstract:
The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants has upgraded its accounting-standard-setting committee. The arm known as the Accounting Standards Committee (ASC) is now known as the ASB. ASC was started in 1984 and has accomplished its main goal of setting and enhancing standards of financial accounting and reporting for public consumption. ASB has a leaner membership but wider regional and linguistic representation. ASB approves new rules in principle but delegates the development of new standards to task forces or staff.
