The long-term performance of horizontal acquisitions
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that resource redeployment and asset divestiture occurring in horizontal integration can make a significant contribution to acquisition performance. Studies were based on 253 horizontal acquisitions and mergers between 1988 and 1992 in the US and European manufacturing industries.

Examining both combined and acquirer stock returns explore pioneering advantages that exist for early-mover acquirers in industry acquisition waves. However, findings suggest that the first-mover literature to corporate practices and link these practices to acquisition return.
