The members of the jury
Article Abstract:
Investors voting for awards for the best UK stockbrokers come from a range of countries, though mainly from the UK. Investors may use the same broker over a long period and may use different types of services. Women accounted for 8% of respondents while 4% did not divulge their sex and men accounted for 88%. A higher proportion of women had investments worth under 20,000 pounds sterling. The south east of England accounted for 43% of respondents, and the age group most represented was aged between 45-years-old and 54-years-old, at 24% of the total.

Fed up by waiting for share certificates
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom investors may suffer delays when waiting for stock certificates. An electronic trading system should minimise such delays, yet they occur and can affect investors seeking to collect dividends. Delays may be due to administrative errors, as has sometimes occurred with building societies that have demutualised. Illiquid stocks may also present problems for market makers, and companies may not employ a registrar, or their registrar may not be linked to the electronic stock trading system.

Satisying the daily diet of data
Article Abstract:
UK investors can obtain share price information more easily with an increase in competition between information suppliers. This has led to a drop in prices as well as a large increase in sources of information. Investors have to pay a basic subscription charge which includes some information and what is offered varies according to the supplier. Investors also have to pay exchange fees. Teletext is one data source which offers a balance between expense and service levels.
