The importance of being quoted
Article Abstract:
Unquoted shares involve risk since they may not be easy to sell or to value. Unit trusts have to restrict investments in unquoted shares to a limit of 10% of a fund. They can provide better returns for investors as they are smaller and younger firms. They do not have to report a profit for three years as do companies prior to being listed on the main market. The UK Alternative Investment Market (Aim) is more regulated than the alternative Ofex, though there are some well-known companies using Ofex such as the National Parking Corporation.

Proshare to look into new issues
Article Abstract:
ProShare is a UK organization established by the government to encourage larger numbers of people to own shares. The organization is examining how new stock issues are allocated to private investors. The Weinberg Committee argues that companies should be allowed to float and not offer shares to private investors, as was permitted from 1995 by the stock exchange. Large brokers may not always have access to enough shares when new issues are made, according to ShareLink.
