The people-machine connection at Texas Instruments
Article Abstract:
Total productive maintenance (TPM) is a process that aims at maintaining total productivity using a comprehensive top-down and bottom-up plantwide implementation. The implementation of the program depends largely on the visionary leadership by top management as well as total employee involvement. Another important fundamental factor is the people-machine relationship which is at the heart of a successful manufacturing firm. An example of a fruitful application of the TPM is Texas Instrument-Philippines which reduced cycle time, scrap and costs by as much as 50% and increased productivity by over 25%.

Article Abstract:

A new productivity model which takes more than inputs and outputs into account is presented. The new model places emphasis on efficiency as the prime factor in improving productivity.
