The players and their preferences
Article Abstract:
UK venture capitalists involved in the development capital market include 3i which ranks first for most types of UK venture finance. Other companies include CINVen and Schroder ventures. There is a scarcity of good opportunities in development capital investment. Companies may seek development capital for expansion, as happened with Pets at Home Superstores which has had funds provided by 3i. CINVen's investments include 2 million pounds sterling invested in Innovative Electronic Components which seeks to grow through acquisitions.

Trailblazers upbeat about prospects
Article Abstract:
UK venture capital trusts (VCTs) are likely to see increased interest from investors toward the end of the 1995 to 1996 tax year. Sales have totalled some 41.5 million pounds sterling, and this could increase threefold. Risks are diversified, using a portfolio method, in contracts to the Business Expansion Scheme. Trusts have to compete for appropriate investments. They benefit from tax advantages and this should offset the smallness of their size.
