The relationship between shoulder torques and the perception of muscular effort in loaded reaches
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to define the quantitative relationship between external dynamic shoulder torques and calibrated perceived muscular effort levels for load delivery tasks, and application in job analyses. The two major conclusions of the study were that the perception of muscular shoulder effort integrated several factors that should be considered while evaluating tasks for their impact on the shoulder region and the torque/perception relationship might be usefully leveraged in job design and analysis.

Evaluation of artificial neural network modelling to predict torso muscle activity
Article Abstract:
Comparison of response surfaces and composite statistical tests of values derived from an artificial neural network (ANN) model and use of several EMG experimental datasets reveals accurately modelled activation levels to within 3%. Evaluation of the ANN model, designed to estimate lumbar muscle activity during moderate levels of static exertion, reveals high levels of consistency in the averaged muscle activity across different experiments.

Modelling of shoulder and torso perception of effort in manual transfer tasks
Article Abstract:
The statistical models of perceived effort at the shoulder and torso levels associated with manual load transfer tasks are presented. The results revealed that space and posture interact in a complex way to affect the rating of perceived effort, and are in agreement with the concept that the sense of effort is related to the motor commands that define the pattern and magnitude of muscle exertion.
