Karosa commissions new shops
Article Abstract:
Karosa (Vysoke Myto, Czech Republic), bus manufacturer, has commissioned new shops. The firm invested CEK 100 mil in them from its own sources. It commissioned a new paint shop, bus tightness testing equipment and a bus repair and control line. Besides, the firm started a line intended for the pre-surface finish of profiles. The investment is a part of the CEK 1.4 bil overall reconstruction of the plant. In Jul 2001, Karosa should commission a CEK 0.5 bil skeleton paint shop. The reconstruction of the plant was started in 2000 and will affect the firm's plate, sheet and profile shop, its welding shop and assembly lines by the end of 2002. Karosa sold 1,251 buses in 2000, up 1.3% from 1999. Its proceeds totalled CEK 4.6 bil in 2000. The firm's 2000 net profit should be bigger than the CEK 335 mil generated in 1999. Karosa has about 1,650 employees.
