The same sub design - again?
Article Abstract:
The Office of Naval Research has conducted a study which has shown that submarine designs have not changed for over 25 years. Results also revealed that the weight-to-power ratio of the machinery is the factor that limits improved performance. A lower weight-to-power ratio for machinery was also concluded to provide at least three basic options, namely, greater speed in the same size submarine with the same test depth, the same speed in a smaller submarine with the same test depth and the same speed in the same size submarine with the same target strength.

22 questions for streetfighter
Article Abstract:
Small warships called Streetfighters, with sizes ranging from 300-1,200 tons, will provide the US Navy a force for access into enemy's coastal waters. Modeled on the small combatants of foreign navies. such as the Israeli Sa'ar 5-class corvette Eilat, streetfighters have two major roles, namely to secure the world's oceans for safe transit and trade among peace-loving countries and to project offensive combat power to influence events ashore in peacetime, crisis, or war.

Austerity is not affordable
Article Abstract:
US Navy officials are well advised to overlook cost-saving design features for the next-generation aircraft carrrier program (CVNX). History has shown that ships with robust survivability features were more likely to emerge from the battle still floating and functioning. While the scale of sea combat may not be as comparable as seen in the last major war, the threat to the CVNX remains significant with the proliferation of anticarrier torpedoes and cruise missiles.
