The quiet consultants
Article Abstract:
Actuarial consultants play a major role in the United Kingdom occupational pensions industry. Actuarial consultants undertake valuations of corporate pension schemes and also provide employee benefit advice. Investment advice has become a major source of income for many actuarial consultants, and they sometimes devise shortlists of investment managers. Actuaries have been criticised for being too cautious and this caution has been linked to the development of pension fund surpluses.

Changing lanes
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom pension funds will be affected by European monetary union (Emu), and international business enterprises will be the first to feel the impact. Schemes approved by tax authorities in the UK and Ireland, schemes with members in a country taking part in Emu, and those with pensioners in countries involved in Emu will also be affected early on. Sectors are also likely to become more important than national categorizations when investment decisions are taken.
