Cell biologists, presently loaded with the wealth of knowledge in basic cell biology and the rapid advance in powerful tools and technologies are turning to people outside the field to put the pieces of the deconstructed cell together. They are looking up to clinicians for translation help, physicists and engineers to build mathematical models to explore the application of their acquired knowledge and thus opening up recruitment in their field for experts from other disciplines.

A high-throughput assay for assessing the cell permeability of combinatorial libraries

Article Abstract:

A convenient assay is developed to monitor relative cell permeability in high-throughput fashion. The method is particularly well-suited for libraries of peptides and peptidomimetic compounds since the OxDex-activated ester is easily added to the N terminus of the growing chain.

Hsp90 invades the outside

Article Abstract:

The cytosolic molecular chaperone Hsp90 promotes maturation of the extracellular metalloprotease MMP2 and hence this extends the multiplicity of roles assigned to the Hsp90 family to a new function outside the cell. The molecular function of extracellular Hsp90 is discussed.
