Time to clear out the rubbish
Article Abstract:
Companies listing on Nasdaq have to meet certain criteria or they are delisted, and there is a case for the London Stock Exchange following this example. The Stock Exchange has basic rules governing the release of results, the proportion of stocks that the public can buy, and judgements about the merits of companies are forbidden. A clear-out would not help smaller companies' stock prices to any great extent, but if there are scarcely any dealings in companies' stocks then there are doubts as to whether they should be quoted.

Our tips trounce the index
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom smaller companies have seen rises in their stock prices in 1999, but investors have to be selective to make a profit. The FTSE Fledgling index rose by 3% from Jul 1998 and Jun 1999, dropping to a low in Oct 1998, but rising thereafter by 57%, and performing better than the FTSE All-Share stock price index in 1999. A selection of 150 recommendations from Investors' Chronicle has seen 120 companies performing well, with 13 companies showing price rises of over 100% since Jul 1998.
