Top of the cycle for the mining sector in sight
Article Abstract:
Mining stocks performed well in 1999, though this is less true for early 2000, and they may have reached a peak. The drop in stock prices for 2000 may be due to concerns about a possible drop in demand as the result of a rise in US interest rates, according to Paribas' Charles Kernot. Rio Tinto and Anglo American have benefited from a rise in gold prices, and Lonmin has benefited from a rise in palladium and platinum prices. Mining companies are not likely to perform as well as in 1999, but could still do well, especially if there is a drop in demand for high-tech stocks.

IT sector shows sell signs
Article Abstract:
IT companies are seeking to raise money, while directors are selling stocks, and this could mean that the bubble in IT stocks is reaching its maximum point.Cedar is among IT companies raising funds through a placing, while Financial Objects' directors have sold a 25% stake in their total holdings. Many people may believe that stock prices for the sector cannot rise further, though they have risen since previous occasions when sellers thought a peak had been reached.
