Pioneers tempted by a taste of China
Article Abstract:
Chinese shares may increasingly be listed abroad following a move by Beijing Danag Power, the first stock from China to gain a London Stock Exchange listing. Chinese shares are listed in Hong Kong and New York, and economic reform in China is likely to continue after the death of Deng Xiaoping, which means that more shares are likely to have foreign listings. The Chinese stock market tends to be volatile, but this applies less to Chinese shares listed abroad, which tend to be no more volatile than other shares in foreign exchanges.

China kindles the capitalist flame
Article Abstract:
China has the largest population of any country world wide and the Chinese economy could become larger than that of the US in ten years from 1998. There are two stock markets and stock prices have been volatile. The Chinese and Hong Kong economies are linked and this brings mutual benefits. The Kong Kong dollar is linked to the US dollar, with high interest rates to support this link. Possible deflation is a concern in China as a slowdown is spreading in the domestic economy.
