UK debut for AT and T

AT and T aims to enter the UK telecoms market. This is part of a wider trend of US companies seeking to penetrate the Europeanmarket. Sprint is setting up an alliance with Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom which has yet to be approved by the regulators. AT and T is seeking regulatory approval for an alliance with Unisource from the Netherlands. The competition commissioner for the European Union is concerned over the impact on competition of proposed links by Sprint and AT and T.

KPN finds a Czech mate: the Dutch telecoms and postal service, KPN, has stolen a march on rivals in eastern Europe

Article Abstract:

KPN of the Netherlands, a communications group and Swiss Telecom have formed a consortium to purchase a quarter share in SPT Telecom, the national telephone utility, from the Czech government. The Telsource partnership bid $145 billion, lower than Stet of Italy, but its plans to improve the outdated SPT network was an important factor in the decision.
