US-Soviet cooperation in space: benefits, obstacles and opportunities
Article Abstract:
Space research is an area where both the US and the USSR can both benefit from increased cooperation. Both countries have misconceptions on their technological achievement due to Cold War rivalry and to the secrecy inherent in space research. The US and USSR will both benefit from space research cooperation because of cost effectiveness, a resulting increase in space research activities and the development of international compatibility in space systems. The obstacles to cooperation are policies imposed by the governments of both countries.

Bringing space policy into the Information Age
Article Abstract:
The transition from the Industrial Age to the Information Age has never been easy, and this applies to space policy as well. The end of the Cold War has eliminated the adversarial two-sided system and revealed a multifaceted world view of astronautics. It is now imperative that space information acquired by the developed countries be made accessible to the less developed ones. In return, developing countries should not hold on to Industrial Age ideas concerning sovereignty when dealing with space resource issues.

Earth observations: The view from the ground
Article Abstract:
Data distribution and access are defining late twentieth century civil remote sensing missions. The majority of satellite operating nations expect technological advancement to be ongoing, but the remote sensing ground segment does not reflect the same success. The emerging ground segment entities discussed include the Landsat Ground Station Operations Working Group, the Global Land 1-LKM AVHRR Project, the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics Consortium and the Committee on Earth Observations Satellites.
