Value co-production: intellectual origins and implications for practice and research
Article Abstract:
The concept of 'value co-production' is an alternative view of value creation in which customers are described as creating value instead of destroying it. Moreover, value in this perspective is mutually constructed and re-constructed among actors with dissimilar values, which are reconciled or combined in the process of co-producing value. The prevailing view of value co-production has been in development since the start of the 18th century although its emergence in practice has only recently been facilitated by sociotechnical innovations. The current framework on value co-production has significant implications on business definition, work organization, management and the transition towards a co-productive economy.
