The design of coordination and control mechanisms for managing joint venture-parent relationships
Article Abstract:
Previous research on joint ventures (JVs) has failed to consider the two variables of control and implementation. A study was conducted to address this shortcoming. Using data from a sample of 128 JV-parent relationships, this research examined the impact of the levels of strategic interdependence and environmental uncertainty on the design of control mechanisms. Findings verified the relevance of the degree of strategic interdependence in the differences in the use of various control mechanisms. The direct and moderating influence of environmental uncertainty on the design of some control mechanisms were also observed. Implications and recommendation for further studies are discussed.

Sources of value creation in acquisitions: an empirical investigation
Article Abstract:
The way in which acquisitions created value was investigated by collecting data from 102 tender offers occurring between 1962 and 1979. The findings suggested that the creation of value in related acquisitions was related to market power and economic efficiencies resulting from economies of scale, economies of scope, and operating efficiencies. Value creation in unrelated acquisitions was related to the coinsurance effect.
