Venturing on higher returns
Article Abstract:
UK venture capital funds performed well in 1995 and new venture capital trusts (VCTs) have been launched, offering tax advantages for investors. There are risks involved in this type of investment which could be vulnerable to recession. Venture capital funds should perform better than trusts specializing in smaller companies and they do not always do so. Investors could still consider these funds if they see the UK economy as unlikely to enter recession but a stock market correction as possible.

Weigh up risk and return to find the right VCT
Article Abstract:
There are 11 venture capital trusts (VCT) issuing stocks in the United Kingdom and they offer substantial tax advantages, though they are only for investors with some experience. Investors have to be able to assess the risks and rewards involved. The market for VCT stocks cannot provide clues, and reliefs are lost when stocks are sold before five years. The managers' track records should be assessed, and the level of diversification is also important.

Profits from the pursuit of pleasure
Article Abstract:
Leisure and hospitality accounts for a tenth of the UK's gross domestic product and this sector has growth potential which is attractive for investors. Companies perform better when they do not have to compete heavily in a mature market, and leisure companies also tend not to be dependent on a few big clients, which helps reduce risks. Health clubs and pub chains are two areas within the leisure industry which have been popular with investors.
