War on terror puts greater U.S. military focus on Africa
Article Abstract:
The realignment of U.S. forces in Europe and Asia has resulted in a focus on Africa as a source of allies and temporary bases in the war against terrorism and will promote the efforts of the U.S. military's European Command (EUCOM) in targeting terrorists trying to hide in Africa. Marine Corps Gen. James Jones, commander of both NATO and EUCOM has stated that the shift of U.S. military personnel is also focused to support operations in the Middle East and Central Asia and the transformation is aimed at the creation of expeditionary forces that cost less in resources and manpower and are capable of reacting quickly.
