Warrants small and exotic lead the way
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom stock warrants have been affected by turbulence in the market in 1997, and some investors have suffered losses. A crisis in stock markets in Far East Asia has affected investment trusts geared to that region, and trusts geared to small companies have also tended not to perform well. Trust warrants specializing in these areas have thus been hit. Generally, the timing could be early in Jan 1998 to seek bargains, though some are available. Edinburgh Dragon is one Far Eastern specialist that could be considered.

Growing fat on small fish
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom investors can use personal equity plans (Peps) to invest in smaller companies, either through unit trusts or investment trusts. Small firms often show rapid growth and stockholders and directors' interests may be entwined where directors hold large stakes in the companies. There is also the possibility of a takeover. Companies may also have tangible assets witha higher value than the company's value on the stock market. Stock picking is important in this sector, so good managers can add value.
