Watching BA on its cycle
Article Abstract:
British Airways (BA) shares have been assessed by six brokers, two of whom would buy, two would sell, and two would hold. The concern of the market is with the core business of the company, and its position on a cycle of profitability. Staff and marketing costs have risen, which concerns Williams de Broe, a seller, while Smith New Court would buy since the company's performance is good, after provisions, the broker argues. Charterhouse Tilney argues that BA looks set to grow for a minimum of two years, and also recommends buying the shares.

BA aloft on USAir talks
Article Abstract:
British Airways (BA) has seen a 29% rise in its share price in 1995, boosted by an increase in passengers. Talks between USAir, in which BA holds a 25% stake, and American and United which are interested in acquiring USAir, have also helped boost BA's share price. A survey of six stockbrokers shows three as buyers, two holding and one rating BA shares a sell. Klienwort Benson is a buyer and sees potential for cost reductions at BA. Williams de Broe, a seller, sees regulatory issues as among BA's problems.

BA has four fanciers
Article Abstract:
British Airways has been affected by a strike and there have been doubts over a planned alliance with American Airlines. The high value of pound sterling will also affect the company's profits in 1997. Four brokers from a sample of six rate the company's stocks a buy, one rates them a hold and one rates them a sell. The buyers are NatWest, Morgan Stanley, BZW and Williams de Broe. Paribas is the holder, and ABN Amro Hoare Govett is pessimistic about the deal with American Airlines.
