Ways out of the Grid
Article Abstract:
Over a million UK investors holding shares in seven electric utilities will be given shares in the National Grid Group following its flotation in Dec 1995. The 12 UK utilities own the National Grid, the UK electricity transmission concern. Mergers affecting the utilities mean that not all of the 12 companies will be distributing shares. Small investors can sell all their holdings through a National Grid offer with no commission charged. Some UK brokers are also offering special rates.

Politics key for Yorkshire
Article Abstract:
Yorkshire Electricity has performed well among UK electric utilities but the sector has been hit by political concerns. Four analysts from a sample of six stockbrokers' analysts rate the company's shares a buy, and two rate them a hold. Buyers include Greig Middleton which sees a bidder as likely to have to pay 10 pounds sterling per Yorkshire share, and Panmure Gordon, attracted by a planned dividend increase. The holders are Daiwa and Societe Generale Strauss Turnbull.
