CSOB (Prague, Czech Republic), bank, saw a profit of CEK 4.7 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 2.8 bil in 1999 and CEK 3.16 bil in 1998. The bank has a classified-credits share of 45.7%. CSOB has 230 branches in the Czech Republic and another 26 branches in Slovakia. Its majority shareholder is the bank KBC (Belgium). In 1993 the state cleared the bank of credits, which had been granted during the socialis regime for the financing of foreign trade. The total costs on the transaction are estimated at CEK 40-50 bil. In 1998 the government provided a guarantee for about CEK 30 bil in case Slovakia would not redeem the debt that arose during the bank's clearance in 1993. In 2000 CSOB purchased the bank IPB (Czech Republic) and received a state guarantee for all assets.

Citibank (Prague, Czech Republic), bank, saw a profit of CEK 855 mil in 2000 compared to CEK 206 mil in 1999 and CEK 712 mil in 1998. The bank's share of classified credits in total credits is 10.8%. Citibank has 11 commercial branches. Its majority shareholder is Citibank Overseas Investment Corporation (US). Until recently the bank ensured services only for large-scale clients, mainly firms. Lately it has also started to offer services to small-scale consumers and small companies, mainly in the field of loans.
