Which database, and why
Article Abstract:
A data base is the combination of related computer files, first developed around 1970. Special data base management system (DBMS) software is used to combine and service related files in a single database, thus offering ease of access to users. Relational data base management systems (RDBMS) are now the most popular DBMSs, although hierarchical data bases are still in use. While DBMSs offer many advantages, there are some disadvantages to RDBMSs, including that they are less efficient than traditional file databases, they may require more computing power, and tools may be too rigid to behave exactly as needed. People contemplating the purchase of a DBMS must be cognizant of what a DBMS will not do for them, as well as what it can do.
