Stock prices have risen to record levels in the US and United Kingdom, and investors and becoming nervous. There are a number of factors that could trigger a bear market. Bond yields and inflation could rise, and unemployment may have dropped to levels so low that inflationary pressures result. There could also be supply shocks. Corporate earnings could be hit be recessions abroad, wage inflation, or a drop in consumer spending. Investors in stock markets may initially be happy to accept risk because they have made prior gains, but attitudes to risk could change if the market were affected by several crises.
