Will it be different this time around?
Article Abstract:
Most investors are taking an optimistic view of the market as share prices in many industries continue to go up. This attitude is further reinforced by analysts' predictions that stocks will continue to go higher in the coming months. However, insider selling activity has reached an all-time high and they continue to increase their selling pace on an unusually broad scale. Insider buying activity in late 1994 was at a high level despite the general feeling that the market was rapidly becoming bearish, and later events proved their decision to be correct. Insiders are not infallible but it would be wise to take this lesson into account.

Why the Japanese disease may spread
Article Abstract:
Japan has been affected by overinvestment which led to a drop in profit and a reduction in investment, with interest rate falls and recession. There is a danger that the same thing could occur in the US and investment is increasing while profits are dropping in 1998. Spare capacity is increasing and there is concern about sales forecasts. The US may may able to maintain a boom for longer than forecast for a number of reasons such as a drop in the prices of investment goods, and the flexibility of the US labor market.
