siRNAs: Application in functional genomics and potential as therapeutics
Article Abstract:
The small interfering RNA (siRNA) approach for gene silencing holds a great therapeutic promise as siRNAs, like micro RNA (miRNA) are used by cells to regulate gene expression and are non toxic and highly effective. But the potential drawback of using siRNAs for therapeutic is that if used in long term, siRNAs can out-compete the function of endogenous miRNA genes in certain cell types.
