Article Abstract:
A series of branched poly(6-azulenylethenyl)benzene derivatives consisting of a central benzene ring surrounded by acetylene-bridged 1,3-bis(n-hexyloxycarbonyl) azulene arms is investigated by physical and theoretical methods. Their optical and electrochemical features are explained with the help of calculations regarding their pi nature and extension of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMOs), the key factors that modulate their properties.

Selective molecular recognition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on calix[4]arene-functionalized Ag nanoparticles by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy was used to detect trace concentrations of polycyclic hydrocarbons (PAHs). New SERS substrates were developed, which consisted Ag nanoparticles either in suspension or immobilized on glass, obtained by a new method and covered by adsorbed self-assembled calix[4]arene molecules.
