ACPA Action Plan: spreading good news

Addressing public concerns over biotechnology and children's health would figure prominently on the American Crop Protection Assn's (ACPA) proposed action plan. ACPA Pres Jay Vroom said the association is considering ways to ensure that it would have a strong position at the beginning of a new US presidency. On the other hand, Angelina Duggan, ACPA's director of science policy, said the organization will continue to challenge EPA's interpretation of the Food Quality Protection Act, particularly those concerning exposure estimates to sensitive populations such as children.

Agricultural cooperative Farmland Industries Inc of Kansas City, MO, has announced that its deal to merge with Cenex Harvest States will be completed by June 2000. The company said that the merger will boost its capability to handle and process grain in a wider are of the country. The strategy is part of it vision that food processors will have the power to dictate the types of genetically modified crops to be grown by tracking consumer tastes and demand.
