Adsorption of pure and mixed solvent solutions of spin probes onto stationary phases

Article Abstract:

Water, methanol (MeOH), acetonitrile (ACN) and binary MeOH-water and ACN-water solutions of different spin probes selected to mimic the behavior of different pollutants, were adsorbed onto stationary phases usually used in reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). These stationary phases are constituted by porous silica and differ from each other regarding the surface area, pore size, the particle size, the surface functions and the percentage of functionalization.

Microsolvation of the sodium and iodide ions and their ion pair in acetonitrile clusters: a theoretical study

Article Abstract:

The structural and thermodynamic properties of [Na.sup.+][(C[H.sub.3]CN).sub.n], [I.sup.-][(C[H.sub.3]CN).sub.n], and NaI[(C[H.sub.3]CN).sub.n] clusters are examined by using Monte Carlo simulations. The increased solvent evaporation resulting from larger excess energies upon photoexcitation or major solvent reorganization on the ionized state has accounted for the solvent-selectivity in NaI cluster multiphoton ionization.

Surface-enhanced infrared absorption of p-nitrobenzoic acid on planar silver halide fiber

Article Abstract:

Surface-enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) discovered for trypsin on a planar silver halide surface, is demonstrated for a small organic molecule, p-nitrobenzoic acid. The simple procedure of depositing pNBA through evaporation of acetonitrile solutions on the planar silver halide element leads to the acid dimer, using amounts between 25 ng and 15 microng.
