Buying with caution
Article Abstract:
Farmers in the US are expected to be more cautious with their purchase of agricultural inputs for the 1999 crop cycle, according to agricultural economists. This buying behavior, which will also include negotiations for better deals with dealers, is the result of the prevailing low prices for such crops as soybean, corn, wheat and cotton. The prices for these commodities, while showing a slight improvement compared to 1998 prices, should also force dealers to manage their inventories more carefully.

Article Abstract:
Genetically-enhanced grains are expected to be separated from traditionally-bred crops in the future as a result of increasing pressure from environmental groups. This has caused anxiety in the agricultural sector, which is deemed to still be unprepared for the added requirement. There is also the problem in drawing the line between genetically-enhanced crops and traditionally-bred grain.
