Aggregation phenomena in aqueous solutions of uncharged star polymers with a porphyrin core

Article Abstract:

Uncharged star polymers having a porphyrin core and four poly (ethylene glycol) methyl ether (PEGME) arms were synthesized and investigated as a function of the molecular mass of the arms, in different thermodynamic conditions. Molecules with short PEGME arms are insoluble in water, where as in the presence of long PEGME chains, the star polymers are water-soluble for the intermediate length of the arms the building up of large rigid monodisperse aggregates, driven by the diffusion limit aggregation mechanism were observed by means f static and dynamic light scattering.

Neutron scattering study and dynamic properties of hydrogen-bonded liquids in mesoscopic confinement. 2. The zeolitic water case

Article Abstract:

The diffusional and vibrational dynamics on water confined in a NaA zeolitic matrix is investigated by employing incoherent quasi-elastic neutron scattering (IQENS) and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) absorption measurements. The diffusive process reveals a wide distribution of relaxation times, in analogy with the results of a recent quasi-elastic neutron scattering experiments on water confined in a sol-gel silica glass.

Uncharged water-soluble Co(II)-porphyrin: A receptor for aromatic alpha-amino acids

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to show how the binding mechanism between receptor and amino acids (AAs) changes by modulating properly the pH or the molecular structures. It is indicated that in these aqueous solutions the coordination Co-N is not the fundamental mechanism giving rise to the formation of the complexes and that binding can be driven by hydrophobic interactions.
