Fast decarboxylation of aliphatic amino acids induced by 4-carboxybenzophenone triplets in aqueous solutions. A nanosecond laser flash photolysis study
Article Abstract:
Quenching of the 4-carboxybenzophenone triplet ((super 3)CB) by H2N-CH2-CO2-Et and by amino acid anions of the general formula Nr2-CR2-CO2-, where R is H or Me is investigated in the basic aqueous solution. The reductive quenching of (super3)CB by amino acids results in the formation of aminium radical zwitterions.

Amino acids under hydrothermal conditions: apparent molar volumes of aqueous alpha-alanine, beta-alanine, and proline at temperatures from 298 to 523 K and pressures up to 20.0 MPa
Article Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to determine the apparent molar volumes for aqueous alpha-alanine, beta-alanine and proline. These amino acids were subjected to temperatures 343 deg Kelvin and pressures of up to 20.0 MPn in excess of steam saturation. Standard partial molar volumes from experimental data were found to compare well with published values obtained near ambient temperatures. An increase in temperature mimics the behavior of these amino acids to that of large univalent aqueous electrolytes.
