An optical waveguide study on the nanopore formation in block copolymer/homopolymer thin films by selective solvent swelling
Article Abstract:
Thin films of mixtures of asymmetric poly(styrene-block-methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) diblock copolymers and PMMA homopolymers with cylindrical PMMA microdomains oriented normal to the substrate surface are used to couple optical modes in the Kretschmann configuration, and their optical properties are investigated by optical waveguide spectroscopy. The sequential swelling/reannealing of the initial mixture film results in a number of discrete or partially interconnected pores.

Increase in the mobility of photogenerated positive charge carriers in polythiophene
Article Abstract:
The increase in mobility of charge carriers in regioregular poly 3-hexyl thiophene (RR-P3HT) films by mixing them with tetracyanoethylene (TCNE), by in situ time-resolved microwave conductivity (TRMC) and transient optical spectroscopy (TOS) is examined. The result reveals that TCNE acts not only as an electron acceptor which increases the number of charge carriers on photoexposure, but also as a functional addictive which enhances the mobility of the charge carriers.

Sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone)/poly(vinyl alcohol) sensitizing system for solution photogeneration of small Ag, Au, and Cu crystallites
Article Abstract:
Illumination of air-free aqueous solutions containing sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) and poly(vinyl alcohol) with 350 nm light results in benzophenone ketyl radicals of the polyketone. Evidence is presented that the polymeric benzophenone ketyl radicals reduce Ag(super +), Cu(super 2+), and AuCl(sub 4)(super -) to metal particles of nanometer dimensions.
