Synchrotron x-ray scattering study of the mechanism of nanopore generation in nanoporous organosilicate thin films imprinted with a reactive six-armed porogen

Article Abstract:

A series of blend films of triethoxysilyl-terminated six-arm poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (mPCL) porogen and polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSSQ) precursor in various compositions are prepared onto silicon substrates by conventional spin-coating their homogeneous solutions and subsequent drying and investigated during thermal process by using grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The analysis has shown the power of the GISAXS technique as a tool for characterizing the pore shape, size and size distribution, as well as the electron density and porosity, in nanoporous dielectric thin films of nanoscale thickness.

Interpretation of sum frequency generation vibrational spectra of interfacial proteins by the thin film model

Article Abstract:

The thin film model is evaluated both theoretically and experimentally to interpret sum frequency generation (SFG) vibrational spectra collected from adsorbed protein molecules using structures of the interfacial proteins. The calculations indicate that nonlocal contributions to SFG spectra of interfacial proteins usually can be ignored.
