Biotech agreement reached
Article Abstract:
A regulation governing biotechnology crops and trade was agreed on by 130 countries in Montreal, Quebec. The regulation called the Biosafety Protocol establishes an international structure for countries to use when making decisions concerning biotech crops. One important aspect of the agreement is the labeling requirement for commodity shipments which may contain biotech products. The protocol when ratified should not dissuade US farmers from using biotechnology.
