Electrochemical reactivity of carbon monoxide and sulfur adsorbed on Ni(111) and Ni(110) in a lithium-based solid polymer electrolyte in ultrahigh vacuum
Article Abstract:
Cyclic voltammetry was used in studying the effects of adsorbed carbon monoxide and sulfur on the electrochemical properties of Ni(111) and Ni(110) at a temperature of 333 K and at ultrahigh vacuum conditions. Results show that both carbon monoxide and sulfur are adsorbed on Ni(111) and Ni(110). Sharp peaks have been observed for Ni(111) at c(4 x 2)CO and sulfur overlayers situated at the 0.5 and 1.25V. The voltammetric features for Ni(110) are broad and not well defined.

Electrochemistry in ultrahigh vacuum: Underpotential deposition of Al on polycrystalline W and Au from room temperature AlCl3/1-ethyl-3-methlimidazoli7um chloride melts
Article Abstract:
The voltammetric characteristics of polycrystalline Au and W electrodes cleaned and characterized in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) is examined in ultrapure AlCl3/1-ethhyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride melts in UHV. The observations open new prospects for fundamental electrochemical studies of well-characterized, highly reactive metals, including single crystals, in a variety of low vapor pressure ionic liquids.
