Chiroptical activity of BINAP-stabilized undecagold clusters
Article Abstract:
Undecagold cluster compounds {[Au.sub.11][BINAP.sub.4][X.sub.2]}[.sup.+] (BINAP=bidentate phosphine ligand 2,2'-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1'-binaphthyl) were synthesized by chemical reduction process of the corresponding precursor complexes. The enantiomers {[Au.sub.11][R-BINAP.sub.4][X.sub.2]}[.sup.+] and {[Au.sub.11][S-BINAP.sub.4][X.sub.2]}[.sup.+] gave excellent mirror image CD-spectra.

Chiral ordering and conformational dynamics for a class of oligo-phenylene-ethynylenes on Au(111)
Article Abstract:
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is used to characterize the adsorption structures formed from a class of planar organic molecules on the Au(III) surface under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. The results have shown the molecule-molecule interactions to be of van der Waals character, despite the compounds having functional moieties capable of forming intermolecular hydrogen bonds.
