Cylindrical projection of electrostatic potential and image analysis tools for damaged DNA: the substitution of thymine with thymine glycol
Article Abstract:
The effects of chemical modification of nucleotides on the electrostatic potential around the DNA molecule and its structure are studied using electronic structure computations. The replacement of thymine with the bulky thymine glycol results in its displacement along DNA axis in the direction of methyl group, resulting in distortion of the DNA structure.

The study reveals that when pH and pMg are specified in addition to temperature, pressure, and ionic strength, the criterion for spontaneous change and equilibrium is provided by the transformed Gibbs energy G that is defined by Legendre transform.
