Diffusion of probe particles in surfactant gels: dynamic light scattering study
Article Abstract:
The concept of probe particle diffusion in polymer gels is applicable to surfactant assemblies to describe the growth behavior of micelles. This was gleaned from a study of the growth and entanglement of some aqueous surfactant solutions using the concept. Results show that a change in the diffusion coefficient of the added polystyrene latex particles in the micellar solution can monitor the growth of micelles in the cetyl trimethylammonium tosylate-water system with an increase in the volume fraction of the surfactant. A drastic change in the diffusion coefficient is noted near the overlap concentration of the micelles, while anomalous diffusion of the probe particle happens in the entangled network of the micelles.

Ionic and Zwitterionic model macromolecular surfactants
Article Abstract:
Diblock copolymer chains can serve as macromolecular corelates of low molecular weight surfactants when dissolved in a selective solvent. Small-angle neutron scattering experiments were performed to characterize the micellization of diblock copolymers. In particular, ionically end-capped polystyrene-block-polyisoprene copolymers were examined. The location of the charge in the soluble or nonsoluble block of the copolymer chain influenced the aggregation number and interaction between micelles in monofunctional samples.
