Effect of alkyl sulfates on the phase behavior and microstructure of alkyl polyglucoside microemulsions
Article Abstract:
Addition of alkyl sulfate surfactants to water-n-alkyl beta-D-glucopyranoside and water-alkyl ethylene glycol ether-beta-D-glucopyranoside exhibit specific changes phase behaviors. For binary water mixtures, addition of alkyl sulfates shrinks the upper miscibility gap and shifts the lower critical point to higher temperature. This may be due to increased repulsive intermicellar interactions. In the second mixture, addition of sulfates increases the efficiency of the mixture and moves the microemulsion region to higher temperatures.

Sugar surfactant-based solutions as host systems for enzyme activity measurements
Article Abstract:
Scattering methods were used to investigate sugar surfactant solutions with or without hexanol to determine the correlation between lipase activity and the structure aggregates within the host system. The lipase activity of these systems with additional amount of n-octane, which causes micelle swelling, was measured. Results showed that enzyme activity strongly depends on the supramolecular structure of the lipid aggregates.
