Direct evidence for the formation of a C-O bond between adsorbed species
Article Abstract:
The formation of a C-O bond through the thermal activation of adsorbed 2-propyl groups, which takes place in the presence of chemisorbed oxygen on a Ni(100) single-crystal surface, is presented by using the evidence of direct X-ray photoelectron (XPS) and reflection-absorption infrared (RAIRS) spectroscopy. The presence of degree of mobility of one of the reactants is indicated by the recombination of the two intermediate species consisting of alkyl and oxygen adsorbates on the surface through oxygen insertion in the metal-alkyl surface bond.

Thermal chemistry of iodomethane on Ni(110).2. Effect of Coadsorbed oxygen
Article Abstract:
The effect of coadsorbed oxygen on the thermal chemistry of iodomethane on Ni(110) single-crystal surfaces is studied. It is found that extensive molecular desorption occurs at temperature approximately 60 K higher than those seen for the desorption of multilayer CH3I on the clean surface.
